What is the Handshake TLS?

TLS Handshake is an encryption process that connects two computer systems. It starts with the server sending an encrypted message "Finished" containing the client's key. Once the Handshake is complete, the client's session key can be sent to the server. Once the connection is lost or broken, the session key pair is removed from server. The handshake process is then repeated when a Client Hello is sent.

QUIC's low cost handshake

QUIC uses the same basic principles as TLS, but adds a low-latency handshake. A "clientHello” message is the first step of the handshake. This message contains a cipher suite, the initial-max-data-transport parameter, and an address validation token. This message is then sent from the client to server.

QUIC's low-latency-handshake TLS reduces the handshake time for web-like data transfers. Traditional TCP-like mechanisms take three round trips. The new QUIC mechanism reduces that to two. QUIC permits multiple byte streams on the same connection. This is a natural fit for streaming video.

RSASSA-PSS signature schemes

The RSASSA–PSS handshake consists only of two components. Each one is unique. The first is the cryptographic content. The encryption process is the second component. The RSA encryption algorithm is used to create the handshake. Both components encrypt and decrypt the message, with the client producing a digital signature.

The RSASSA/PSS signature scheme uses RSA keys to sign data with a private RSA Key. To verify the signature, the public RSA key from the other side can be used. This allows for two signatures to be used to verify the same data. PKCS#1 v2.1 standardized RSASSA-PSS.

Perfect forward secrecy

Perfect Forward Security is a well-known security feature that prevents the theft of encrypted data in the future. Currently, most major browsers support this security option. Some websites don't support this security feature.

Perfect Forward Secrecy can only be implemented by servers that support TLSv1.2. This feature can be achieved by using the Diffie-Hellman exchange (DHE). This allows clients to be provided with a different session key for each communication session. This ensures that your session keys do not get lost.

Cipher suites

TLS (Transport Layer Security), is a protocol that enables secure communication. To protect messages' contents, it uses a cipher set. Both the server and client must agree to the cipher Suite and must both support it. Also, handshake protocols can also be used with ciphersuites.

TLS standards define the concept and definition of a cipher set. TLS 1.2 is most commonly used. TLS 1.3 adds additional requirements for cipher sets. Although TLS 1.3 was recently standardised, it is not widely used. Because of this, TLS 1.2 cipher suites do not work on TLS 1.3.

Round trips

Round trips using handshake TLS are a security protocol that allows secure communications between two devices. TLS handshakes generally require two round trips in order to establish the connection between client and server. False Start can reduce this time. This technique involves the client sending encrypted data to the server before it has an answer. This allows clients to reduce the round trip time needed for TLS connections.

TLS uses a 2-way handshake to establish secure communication among client and server. Each handshake takes approximately 250 milliseconds. Handshakes that support higher encryption standards are only required one time if the server is available.
